Fonds Fernand Nault \u2013 Biblioth\u00e8que et<\/em> Archives nationales du Qu\u00e9bec<\/em> (BAnQ)<\/h5>

Description<\/strong><\/p>

The \u201cfonds\u201d relates to Fernand Nault’s artistic activities, notably as assistant director and choreographer at Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, dancer, ballet master and stage manager at The American Ballet Theater. It bears witness to his participation in teaching ballet to youth and the awards and honors he has received during his career. The \u201cfonds\u201d includes, among others, correspondence, including letters from Ludmilla Chiriaeff, Maurice and Carmen Morenoff, Jacqueline Kennedy; handwritten notes from his productions and choreographies; transcripts of interviews; press clippings of ballets presented by different ballet companies; tour itineraries; certificates attesting to the awards received; photographs of Fernand Nault’s personal life and tours of the United States and Europe. This collection also includes drawings including filmmaker Norman McLaren and costume designer Judanna Lynn, as well as audio-visual and audio recordings of ballets choreographed by Fernand Nault.<\/p>

The \u201cfonds\u201d is divided into eight series:<\/p>

S1 Personal life, S2 Dance companies, S3 Choreography, S4 Ballet teaching, S5 Honors, S6 Photographs, S7 Drawings, S8 Audiovisual and audio documents<\/p>

Models of sets and costumes were donated to Bilbioth\u00e8que de la danse Vincent-Warren. The show programs and posters are sent to the National Collection and will be available via the Iris catalog.<\/p>

Conservation history<\/strong><\/p>

This \u201cfonds\u201d was acquired from Fernand Nault in January 2006. Additional documents were given by Fonds choregraphique Fernand Nault in 2011.<\/p>

Fonds Fernand Nault – Biblioth\u00e8que de la danse Vincent-Warren\u00a0(BDVW)<\/h5>

Description<\/strong><\/p>

The archival collection is dedicated to dancer and choreographer Fernand Nault. It covers his artistic activity from his dance training years in Montreal in the 1930s until his death in 2006. His activities as a dancer, rehearsal director, assistant director and choreographer with various companies such as the American Ballet Theater, Louisville Civic Ballet, Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, Colorado Ballet and Dayton Ballet Company are documented. The documents were directly acquired from the artist and supplemented by several isolated documents from the collection of Biblioth\u00e8que de la danse Vincent-Warren. In addition to these documents, which have been incorporated into the archives, the BDVW collection contains an abundance of documents which make it possible to complete a research on Fernand Nault. In particular, the numerous programs and posters of the Grands Ballets Canadiens which bear witness to its vast choreographic repertoire for this company. Through numerous photographs, models of costumes and sets, programs, correspondence, press clippings and annotated musical scores, 60 years of life devoted to dance are documented here.<\/p>
